Naxalites damage two vehicles

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, FEB. 22. About 50 naxalites, belonging to the Krishnapatti Dalam, in a bid to create scare among Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in Guntur district destroyed two vehicles in the Palnadu area in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The former MLA, Yerrapathineni Srinivas, who is in the hit list of the naxals, returned to Piduguralla town from Brahmanapalli, where 12 naxalites burnt a jeep at about 1 a.m. The naxalites attacked the vehicles proceeding to Secunderabad and spread a word that they had placed claymore mines at the Chennaipalem railway crossing.

The former Marturu MLA, Gottipati Narasaiah, along with Mr. Srinivas are said to have witnessed the stopping of the jeep in front of them, which was later burnt. The rumours made district police run from all places to the railway gate where they found two buckets filled with rocks. The district police alerted the Central Reserve Protection Force (CRPF) in the Palnadu area as naxalites were using the strategy of confusing the police and diverting their attention by spreading rumours. A `Commander jeep' was destroyed at Karalapadu and tyres of an RTC bus were deflated in the same village.

The Officer on Special Duty at Piduguralla, Ashok Kumar, said that reports that the glasspanes of two RTC buses were broken at Thummala Cheruvu were baseless. He said that they had even spread rumours that the Dachepalli railway station was blasted and the railway line from Nadikudi to Pondugala was blown up.
