HYDERABAD, FEB. 22. About 20 cases of polio have been detected in different parts of the State putting the authorities on an alert. These cases are detected from Anantapur, Cuddapah and Prakasam districts. "We are taking all precautions and have alerted the border States", said Kodela Siva prasada Rao, Minister for Medical and Health. Dr. Rao, who inaugurated the second round of Pulse Polio programme at an Urban Health Centre in Chintalbasti here on Sunday morning, said it was unfortunate that the polio virus was still present in South India. He said it was targeted to administer the polio drops to 1.08 crore children in the State. A total of 64,344 polio booths were set up and 1,646 mobile teams formed. In the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad it was planned to cover 6.05 lakh children at 3782 immunisation posts. The immunisation posts are located at polling booths, Urban Health Posts, nursing homes, anganwadi centres, community halls, private houses, play schools, railway stations, RTC bus stands and Air Port. The intensive polio immunisation would be carried out on Sunday and Monday followed by two days of door-to-door visits. For this 356 mobiles teams were set up, the Minister said.
