`Janata Dal (S) an able rival for Congress'

MANGALORE, FEB. 22. The Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution,V. Srinivas Prasad, feels that only the Janata Dal (S) can defeat the Congress in the elections.

Speaking to presspersons here today, he reiterated his decision not to contest the elections.

Praising the leadership of the Janata Dal (S) President and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, Mr. Prasad said there was a strong chance of defeating the Congress which, he alleged, was practising pseudo secularism.

He said the State Samata Party workers' meeting held a few days ago at Chamarajanagar had ratified the decision to merge with the Janata Dal (S).
