MANGALORE, FEB. 22. Rotary Club Mangalore East, A.J. Hospital and Research Centre, and Vijay Karnataka, a Kannada daily, have organised a month-long free heart check-up camp at the hospital from April 1. Harish, cardiothoracic surgeon, and Manjunath and Purshottam, cardiologists, will participate in the workshop. M.S. Gururaj, convener of the camp, told presspersons here on Friday that the club had conducted a similar camp last week. Apart from patients from the State, those from Kerala and Goa were also expected to make use of the camp. He said the patients coming to the camp would have to produce a letter of recommendation from their physician certifying the nature of cardiac illness. The organisers intended to attend to a minimum of 100 patients a day. Prashanth Marla, Medical Director of the hospital, said diagnostic tests such as echocardiography, X-ray, treadmill test, and ECG would be carried out free of cost. Advanced diagnostic tests such as angiogram and surgery would be carried out a subsidised rate, he added.
