Case filed against ACP

The Chandrayanagutta police on Sunday registered a case against the Charminar division Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Nageswara Rao, under the Prevention of Atrocities against the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act following a complaint lodged by the Falaknuma traffic police station Inspector, T. Raja Babu.

In his complaint, Mr. Babu charged that Mr. Nageswara Rao abused him in the name of caste while he was regulating traffic movement at the Mahabubnagar crossroads.

The ACP allegedly picked up an argument with Mr. Babu and began to abuse him. When the Inspector questioned him as to why he was scolding him, the ACP allegedly beat him up.

Case was booked against the ACP under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 353 (assaulting a public servant from discharging duties) of the Indian Penal Code.

Jewellery taken away

Unidentified persons broke into a house at Moghal-ka-Nala under the Langerhouz police station area and took away property worth over Rs. 3 lakhs. According to a complaint lodged by the house owner, Sayyad Kharar Hussain Zahidi, the theft occurred in the early hours of Sunday when he went to a hotel in Mehdipatnam.

On his return at around 5 a.m., Mr. Zahidi found the shelves in the bedroom broke open and 62 tolas of gold ornaments, 38 tolas of silver articles, a Yashica camera and Rs. 1,500 in cash stolen.

Fatal hit for labourer

A labourer, S. Ramulu (20), was killed on Saturday evening after a splinter hit his head while the workers of a stone-crushing unit blasted a huge boulder at Vattinagulapalli village in the Rayadurgam police station area. The victim was a resident of Panchirapally of Pebberu mandal in Mahabubnagar district. The mishap occurred when the stone-crushing unit blew up a huge rock.

The splinter hit Ramulu who was 300 yards away working in a field.

1 dies as truck hits auto

An unidentified man, aged 22 years, was killed and two others sustained injuries when a truck hit the autorickshaw in which they were travelling near Kattedan on Sunday morning.

The injured persons -- Raju (22) of Uppuguda and Valia (23) of Jahangirabad -- were shifted to Osmania General Hospital.
