Ban political rallies

Sir, _Political parties, casteist organisations showing their might for right to electoral share by way of rallies are inconveniencing the common man. Not just the `Vijayaberi', the TRS rally in OU campus, Mudiraj / Brahman/Vysya rallies, Congress's `Kheerabhishekam' of Rajiv Gandhi statue at Somajiguda and so on were all nightmares for the citizens. We need to ban such rallies and somebody should take the initiative to file a writ petition.

Digital meters for autos

Sir,_On February 19, I engaged an auto at Tarnaka to take me to Shopper's Stop in Begumpet.

The distance between the two places is not more than 10 km. but the fare shown by the meter was Rs. 69.50 and the auto driver as per the revised rate list demanded Rs. 75. On my return journey the fare for the same distance and to the same point in Tarnaka was Rs. 42.50 and as per revised rates, I paid Rs. 50. The actual fare calculated on the basis of distance works out to no more than Rs. 40. Thus on both occasions the auto drivers had cheated me by using tampered meters.

Auto drivers are fleecing the public by using faulty meters. The Government should insist on their using digital meters.

Indu Sekhar,

Improve bus services

Sir,_In an interactive session with APSRTC officials arranged by the Public Relations Society of India on November 11, 2003, we brought to the notice of APSRTC certain problems pertaining to Sanathnagar commuters but no action was taken.

The APSRTC needs to take immediate action on the following requests:

Run bus no. 113-T from Sanathnagar and Uppal (via) Osmania University and Tarnaka; revive route No. 16-ES Sanathnagar to Moulali; run bus No. 223-S from Sanathnagar to BHEL; run bus No. 9 exclusively from Sanathnagar to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Terminal as the buses running from Balanagar are always overcrowded; a bus to Hitech City Madhapur from Sanathnagar.

Further, the buses do not stop at the bus shelter constructed opposite Sanathnagar police station towards Balanagar in spite of repeated appeals including one at the above mentioned interactive session.

Wrong billing by BSNL

Sir,_I surrendered my Cell One connection (94404 09540) along with Sim card on December 31, 2003 at Powergen, Ameerpet, an authorised agency for BSNL's Cell One. I was told clearly that while billing for December 2003, the disconnection date would be 31-12-03. However, I received a bill in January for Rs. 405 including rental of Rs. 325 for January and the last date for payment was 29-01-04. My actual bill for December 03 is only Rs. 115.50. After the discount offer of Rs. 100, the net works out to Rs. 15.50 plus service tax. On BSNL's toll free number, I was told that the date of disconnection was entered as January 6 and I was advised to go to their office in Paradise Circle to get a duplicate billing. Powergen has also expressed its helplessness in this regard. I therefore did not pay the bill. I request the BSNL authorities to issue me a revised bill without penalty.

BSNL delaying conversion

Sir,_I have a BSNL basic phone connection bearing the number 24012474, which comes under the purview of Rajendranagar exchange. I gave an application on January 30, 2004 seeking conversion of my phone under the BSNL Sulabh plan to the Charminar Commercial Officer, WL, at the telephone exchange building, BSNL South Charminar, Hyderabad. The pamphlet published by the BSNL led me to believe that the authorities would convert my phone under the Sulabh plan with immediate effect but even after three weeks, BSNL failed to take action on my tariff package option, and several reminders on phone to concerned officials fell on deaf ears. I request the General Manager (South) to see that my phone is converted under the Sulabh plan, immediately.

Customers' time

being wasted

Sir,_This is to bring to the notice of Andhra Bank senior officials that on February 16, 2004, I went to the Andhra Bank (Ashok Nagar branch) to take back my passbook, which I gave earlier for updating. The bank's work timings are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 3 p.m. I went there at 2.45 p.m. and had to wait till 3 p.m. to get back my passbook as nobody was there at the counter. One may strike off my grievance as not being a big deal. But along with me, there were five other customers. So the total time wasted for customers is 90 minutes. Our public sector banks have not yet imbibed Gandhiji's ideal that the customer is the most valuable visitor to the office premises.

M. Pradeep Kumar,

Hyderabad
