By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, FEB. 22. Nearly 85 per cent of children aged less than five were covered in the second phase of the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme in south Karnataka districts on Sunday. About 50 per cent to 60 per cent coverage was reported in the rest of the State.

A follow-up to the programme will be taken up in the next three days, wherein the rest of the targeted number of children will be administered polio drops, through a door-to-door campaign, according to officials of the Reproductive and Child Health Department.

As many as 72.2 lakh children are expected to be immunised in the five rounds of Pulse Polio drive which will be conducted this year by the State, under the National Immunisation Programme.

The Department of Employees State Insurance Scheme (Medical) Services administered polio drops to 9,650 children in its nine hospitals and 129 ESI dispensaries all over the State.

Special booths were set up at the airport, railway stations and bus stands in the city.
