This Day That Age
Under the auspices of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Madurai, a public meeting was held on February 21 at the Tamkam Maidan, when Mr. C. N. Annadurai, General Secretary of the Kazhagam, addressed the gathering. Mr. S. Muthu, secretary of the Madurai Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, presided, and handed over to Mr. Annadurai a purse of Rs.1,000 for the Tuticorin Conspiracy Case Defence Fund. Mr. Annadurai, in his speech, said that Communists were becoming jealous of the growing strength of the Kazhagam and were doing propaganda against it. For instance, he said the Communist Party members were going about saying that the Kazhagam's struggle against the modified system of elementary education had failed. This, he said, was not true. He pointed out that there were people even in the Congress ranks, who were opposed to the views of the Chief Minister on the question of the modified system of elementary education. Despite all opposition, the Chief Minister was trying to implement the scheme and proposed to extend it to the cities also. He said that the Kazhagam would start another struggle against the system very shortly.
