This Day That Age
Mr. B.N. Datar, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, said in the Council of States on February 22 that agriculturists were being sent to the Andaman Islands for settlement there. Replying to Mr. M. Valiulla, the Deputy Minister added that no quota had been fixed for the settlement but preference was given to displaced persons. About 400 families of 2,000 persons were expected to be settled in the Middle Andamans before the coming monsoon. Out of these, 300 families would be taken from amongst the displaced agriculturists from East Bengal.
