CHENNAI, FEB. 24. New faces dominate the list of All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates for the Lok Sabha election, which was released here today. Only two members of Parliament, T.T.V. Dinakaran from Periyakulam and S. Murugesan from Tenkasi, were renominated by the party general secretary and Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa. Among others, O.S. Manian, propaganda secretary and former member of the Rajya Sabha, who will contest from Mayiladuturai, is a prominent figure in the party hierarchy. A former MP, Edappadi K. Pazhanisamy, has been nominated for Tiruchengode. The rest are less well-known, holding district or panchayat union-level organisational posts. P.H. Pandian, a former leader of the AIADMK parliamentary party, who represented Tirunelveli; C. Srinivasan, party treasurer who represented Dindigul; K. Malaisamy, a former member of the Parliamentary Board, who represented Ramanathapuram; Dalit Ezhilmalai, a former Union Minister who represented Tiruchi, and T.M. Selvaganapathy, a former Minister who represented Salem, are among the MPs who have been left out. Eleven lawyers and a couple of doctors find a place in the list for the 33 out of 39 seats the party is contesting in Tamil Nadu. Several graduates and postgraduates also figure in the list. Altogether 12 district secretaries have been chosen. The Central Chennai candidate is N. Balaganga, Central Chennai district secretary who earlier unsuccessfully contested for Mayor. At present, he is the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board. The South Chennai nominee is Bader Sayeed, chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board. The other candidates are the medical wing secretary, P. Venugopal (Sriperumbudur); the Kancheepuram East district joint secretary of MGR Mandrms, K.N. Ramachandran (Chengalpattu); the general council member, N. Shanmugham (Arakkonam); the Tiruvannamalai North district secretary, Paiyyur A. Santhanam (Vellore); the Jolarpet panchayat union secretary, K.G. Subramani (Tirupattur); the Polur town panchayat secretary, R. Rajalakshmi Rajan (Vandavasi); the Cuddalore West district secretary, Arunmozhi Devan (Tindivanam); the Cuddalore East district secretary, Sorathur R. Rajendiran (Cuddalore); the Dharmapuri district advocates' wing secretary, Nanje Goud (Krishnagiri); the Namakkal district secretary, S. Anbazhagan (Rasipuram); the Salem suburban East district MGR youth wing joint secretary, A. Rajasekaran (Salem); the Ammapettai union secretary, N.R. Govindarajar (Gobichettipalayam); the Coimbatore city advocates' wing deputy secretary, G. Murugan (Pollachi); the Erode South district advocates' wing president, K. Kishore Kumar (Palani); the Karur district secretary, Raja N. Pazhanisamy (Karur); the former secretary of Tiruchi city district, M. Paranjothi (Tiruchi); the Perambalur district medical wing secretary, M. Sundaram (Perambalur); the general council member, P.J. Arjunan (Nagapattinam); the former Thanjavur South district secretary, K. Thangamuthu (Thanjavur); the Pudukottai district advocates' wing secretary, A. Ravichandran (Pudukottai); the Sivaganga district secretary, Suba Karuppaiah (Sivaganga); the Madurai city district secretary, A.K. Bose (Madurai); the Ramanathapuram district secretary, S. Murugesan (Ramanathapuram); the Virudhunagar district advocates' wing vice-president, P. Kannan (Sivakasi); the Tuticorin city district secretary, R. Amirthaganesan (Tirunelveli); the former Tuticorin South district secretary, T. Damodaran (Tiruchendur); and the Madurai suburban district secretary, M. Jayaraman (Dindigul).
