CHENNAI, FEB. 24. Mass feeding of the poor, distribution of sarees and dhotis to the poor, blood donation camps, special poojas at temples and prayers in churches and mosques marked the celebrations of the 56th birthday of the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, today. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat; the Governor, P.S.Ramamohan Rao; the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani; the Orissa Governor, M.M.Rajendran; the Bharatiya Janata Party president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, the national secretary, L.Ganesan, and the Dravidar Kazhagam president, K.Veeramani, were among those who greeted her. On behalf of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnnetra Kazhagam, the PWD Minister, O. Paneerselvam, along with other Ministers cut a cake in the AIADMK headquarters here. A huge cake was cut at Kodambakkam at the stroke of midnight last night. Partymen throughout the State vied with one another in organising functions and distributing doles to the poor, to show the loyalty to their leader. Huge illuminated cut-outs of the Chief Minister were put up by partymen in different parts of the city.
