KOZHIKODE, FEB. 24. The Thirunavaya Brahmaswam Madhom is planning to organise a Rigveda Trissanda during April-May this year. This ritual has not been held for the past 35 years. Rigveda Trissanda is considered an intellectual game of chanting the Rigveda in three different ways. It is believed to have the power for enhancing Rigveda chanting skills and memory retention capacity by chanting the Padapaada and Kramapaada of each Varkam in Rigveda. It will take eight months to complete one round of Rigveda chanting in that way. At present there are only about 25 Namboothiris who are experts in chanting Rigveda. The programme is expected to increase the number by three times, Vinod Namboothiripad, chief coordinator, Namboothiri.com, a website featuring the activities of Namboothiri community, said today. By organising Somayagom in Thrissur in 2003, the number of Namboothiri yagam experts went up from five to 20. The forthcoming Somayagam at Thuravoor in April is expected to further increase their number to 40.To attain perfection, the proposed Rigveda Trissanda will allow only good chanters to participate and will be completed in four years, since experts would not be able to attend the programme continuously for eight months. They would attend the programme for two months at a stretch every year for four years. Mannoor Jathavedan Namboothiri, practising psychiatrist and two-time winner of Katavaloor Katannirikkal, will be the technical head of the event.
