ICF, S. Railway in the lead

By Manuel Aaron

CHENNAI, FEB. 24. Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and Southern Railway are in the lead after the fourth round of the 14th Tamil Nadu State Team Chess Championship organised by Saranya

Chess Centre at the Nehru Stadium on Tuesday evening. The fourth round is the halfway stage of the championship as only three more rounds remain.

Two rounds were held on Tuesday. The morning round was most sensational as International Master N. Sudhakar Babu lost to K.N. Ranga of Kanchi district.

Another game that had the spectators spellbound in the morning was International Master Manuel Aaron's near defeat at the hands of Coimbatore's K. Dhanasekar.

In the black side of a Sicilian defence Aaron playing for Thoothukudi district, got his queen trapped on the queen-side.

But Aaron gave up a knight for just a pawn to extricate his position temporarily.

Dhanasekar should have won easily in a variety of ways but black thrived on white's time trouble and performed a Houdini act to eventually win.

The last three rounds would be played every morning from 9:30 A.M.
