By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, FEB. 24. The Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Arun Shourie, said here today that economic progress can be expedited and job avenues increased through low cost infrastructure and trained manpower.

Mr. Shourie was speaking at a special function after laying the foundation stone of the Hardware and Software Technology Park at the Ayodhya Nagar township here. He said the Centre would extend all technological support for the expansion and growth of Information Technology sector in Madhya Pradesh. He expressed confidence that the State would emerge as a major centre for knowledge-based industry as envisioned by the Chief Minister, Uma Bharti.

Mr. Shourie said that only those countries could become powerful that had the capacity to spread knowledge. He said that there should be no conflict between different kinds of technologies as they all empower the human resource and provide solutions to problems without leaving any room for dogmas. Mr. Shourie said that the late entrants in the Information Technology sphere can get added advantage as they can concentrate on areas that have not received adequate attention by other States. He said that the culture of inviting investment is still developing in this country whereas China has taken full advantage of it.

The Minister said that the IT sector generates jobs on a massive scale and helps the weaker sections and the farmers. While appreciating the efforts made in Madhya Pradesh in the sphere of E-governance, he said that efforts should be speeded up for setting up an Information Technology University in the State.

He said it is a matter of pride that India has earned a name for itself at the global level through the hard work and brilliant capabilities of those associated with the IT sector.

The Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, said that the State would now leave behind the tag of an underdeveloped State and would emerge as the hub of Software and Hardware Technology in the country. She said that the Technology Park, which will be ready in 18 months, would help in generating employment and ushering in economic prosperity in the State.
