JAIPUR, FEB. 24 .The Union Finance Minister, Jaswant Singh, today challenged the report in the latest issue of "The Economist'' on the state of India's economy. "The name of the publication is `The Economist' but it does not mean that whatever it says should be taken as final word in economics,'' he said. Mr.Singh said that his surmises on the sound status of India's economy were based on what the economists back home had testified. The reaction came from Mr.Singh when a scribe pointed out to him that the London-based publication had termed the claims of the "India Shining'' campaign as wishful thinking and most of the achievements should be credited to the good monsoons the country had last season. "These are journalistic assessments. I go by the comments of economists here,'' Mr. Singh asserted.
