ADILABAD, FEB. 24. The district police have arrested nine members of a gang that is allegedly involved in the circulation of counterfeit currency notes in Rs. 100 denomination in north Telangana districts and neighbouring Maharashtra. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, produced the nine persons, who hail from different places in Adilabad district and also from Kinwat area of Nanded district in Maharashtra, before newsmen on Tuesday. Fake currency notes worth Rs. 24,000 were recovered from them. The accused were believed to have links with an organised gang supplying fake notes from Kerala. The arrested were: Girish Shetty and Balu Patil of Adilabad, Munde Prahlad and Bhosle Ravinder Raghunath of Narsapur in Ichoda mandal, M. Suresh, Bazarhathnoor, Dharmaiah and Sirikonda of Ichoda mandal, Gunjakar Dagudu, Mane Tukaram and Mode Hirman, all native of Kinwat. The Boath Circle Inspector, Bhaskar, was instrumental in conducting raids and nabbing the accused. The police recovered fake currency worth Rs. 15,000 from Girish Shetty, Rs. 5,000 from Balu Patil and Rs. 2,000 from Munde Prahlad. Bhosle Ravinder Raghunath had allegedly burnt fake currency worth Rs. 17,000.
