CHENNAI, FEB. 24. Four persons who allegedly swindled about Rs. 20 lakhs on the pretext of procuring jobs in the Gulf were arrested today. The Central Crime Branch police arrested Ramu, Shankar, Abdul Malik and Somu on a complaint from Selvam, a resident of Porur, who was cheated in the deal. The victim said he was approached by Ramu of Manali, who promised to get him a job and documents to travel to the Gulf. He paid around Rs. one lakh to Ramu three months ago. After he did not hear from Ramu, Selvam filed the complaint. A team arrested Ramu and his accomplices. The police said the foursome had allegedly cheated 29 persons. Most of the victims belonged to Andhra Pradesh. The arrested have been charged under Sections 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
