Detained

COIMBATORE, FEB. 24 . The Collector, N. Muruganandam, today ordered the detention of Rukmani (50), wife of the late liquor baron, Easwaramurthy, under the Bootleggers Act for one year. It may be recalled that last Friday the Avanashi Judicial Magistrate had refused to recall a pending warrant against Rukmani and ordered her remand.

According to police, after the demise of Easwaramurthy, Rukmani was said to be carrying on the liquor trade with the help of her two sons. She was accused of smuggling rectified spirit from Karnataka to Kerala via Tamil Nadu, and allegedly involved in 11 prohibition-related offences.

No power

There will be no power supply in the following places on February 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. owing to shutdown of Peelamedu substation for maintenance work:
