This Day That Age
Srimati Durgabai Deshmukh has been appointed whole-time Chairman of the Central Social Welfare Board from March 1, 1954 on which date she would relinquish her membership of the Planning Commission. A press note issued by the Government Secretariat says: "By a resolution dated 12th August 1952, the Government of India, in the Ministry of Education, announced the establishment of a Central Social Welfare Board consisting of representatives of social welfare organisations, members of Parliament as well as Ministries of the Government of India actively concerned with the social welfare programme, with Srimati Durgabai Deshmukh, member of Planning Commission, as Chairman."
