Letters to the Editor
Sir, I am in complete agreement with the Prime Minister's observation that India is going to play cricket in Pakistan and not to wage a war. Cricket is a game of friendship, in which politics must not be allowed to enter.
A. Francis,
Sir, The phrase "It is just a game" is repeated over a hundred times on the eve of every India-Pakistan match, which it certainly is not. Just as good sportsmen are humble in victory and are not overwrought by defeat, spectators should also be mature enough to control their emotions. A nation's pride and self-esteem do not depend on the cricketing abilities of a dozen of its citizens.
Pallavi Bellamkonda,
Sir, If any hardcore cricket fan still deludes himself in the belief that the honour of the country is at stake, he must think again. I, for one, have not forgotten the episodes of `game fixing' that rocked the country not long ago.
Bernard Thangasamy,
Sir, Cricket and politics are best separated. Political tension need not be a barrier to the two countries playing cricket. After all, there are hundreds of fans in Pakistan who want to see Sachin, Sourav and the others play.
Anirudh Govind Rajan,
