The IIM issue

Sir, — The entire debate on the desirability of fee reduction in the Indian Institutes of Management seems to be rather misleading. The crux of the issue is not whether quality is always linked to the price.

As Narayana Murthy, Infosys founder, has said, it is primarily about whether it is worth subsidising an elite education like management at the cost of primary education for all citizens — where if the money is spent, the returns will be phenomenal.
