Rupee strengthens further
MUMBAI,
FEB. 25.
Sustained heavy trade and capital inflows drove the rupee to a fresh two-week high against the U.S. currency today after overcoming moderate month-end dollar demand in an otherwise quiet and range-bound trading at the interbank foreign exchange market.
Closing at 45.2400/2450 a dollar, the rupee gained another 3-3/4 paise from Tuesday's close of 45.2775/2825 after it was confined to a narrow band of 45.2400 and 45.2750 in muted dealings. It opened steady at 45.2750/2850.
The domestic currency has gained by around nine paise in the current week so far and barring the occasional blips, it has appreciated by 0.8 per cent in the current calendar year. PTI
