FAO report shows otherwise: Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB.25. The Congress today disputed the Vajpayee Government's claim of food security in the country, and said that during the rule of the National Democratic Alliance Government only unemployment and hunger had shown growth.

``After seeing a decline of 20 million in the number of undernourished people between 1990-92 and 1996-97, the number of hungry people had increased by 19 million over the following four years,'' the Congress said, quoting the latest United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) report on ``State of Food Insecurity in the World''.
