AIDWA State meet from tomorrow

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 25. The seventh State conference of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) will be held in Kozhikode from February 27 to 29. The Association general secretary, Brinda Karat, will inaugurate the meet at the Jubilee Memorial Hall, Kandamkulam, on February 27.

At a press conference here today, the AIDWA Central committee members, A.K. Premajam, MP, and T. Devi, and the chairman of the organising committee, Elamaram Kareem, said the meet would discuss crucial issues affecting women. The proposed Central legislation on domestic violence, about which the AIDWA and six other national organisations have reservations, would be one of the main issues of discussion. Another topic for discussion would be the Second Labour Commission report. The peculiar situation women employed in various organisations are likely to face in the event of the implementation of the report, would also be highlighted.

Public meetings would also be held as part of the conference.

About 550 representatives representing 19 lakh members are expected to participate in the conference. The State secretary, P.K. Sumathi, will present the report. The Association flag would be hoisted at the venue of the public meeting in Muthalakulam by the former State secretary, T. Devi. The meeting will be addressed by Ms. Karat and others. This would be preceded by a massive rally.

On February 28, a seminar on `Justice to women' will be held.
