KOCHI, FEB. 25. The Centre for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries, an agency of the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is offering support programmes for Indian entrepreneurs. The programmes are aimed at helping prospective companies to prepare products for the European Union (E.U.) market. At a meeting here recently, officials of the agency said their aim was to help the entrepreneur achieve the long-term export goals based on solid partnerships. The support programmes are flexible and tailored to the specific needs of different sectors and individual exporters. The organisation serves three target groups - exporters, business support organisations (BSOs) in developing countries and importers in the E.U. It operates in a wide variety of non-traditional sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry, consumer products, industrial products and services. The agency has restricted its reach to a selected number of developing countries. This is to ensure that the countries have relevant supply capacity with the competency to become a competitive player in the E.U. market. The agency selects BSOs for offering institutional support for capacity building. This may include training for staff and export consultants. The latest developments in the E.U. market are provided by the agency, according to the officials.
