Indian colts face Sri Lankans

By Our Sports Reporter

DHAKA, FEB. 25. It was only late on Tuesday evening, after the Indian colts had nailed down the caribbeans in a crucial game to live another day in the ICC under-19 cricket World Cup here, that Dilip Vengsarkar could afford a smile.

The former Test captain has been doing a remarkable job as the Chairman of the BCCI's Talent Research Development Wing.

Here as Consultant of the team, he knows, possibly more than anyone else, that wins in the league phase are alright, but only victories as the championship progresses are those that really count.

Ambati Rayudu and his boys will face-off with Sri Lanka in their final Super-League Group I day/night clash at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday for a slot in the semifinals. It will see the exit of one of the co-favourites.

With all four teams in the group having one win from two matches, the outcome of the concluding round of the second phase will decide the two qualifiers: the other being the winner of the day contest between South Africa and the West Indies at the Fatullah Stadium.

Sri Lanka's coach Somachandra de Silva does not think his team's inexperience of playing under lights matters in Thursday's game. "The dew factor is not much. It's anybody's game."

Thursday's other fixtures (day matches):

Plate Group I: Australia vs. Nepal (CDVS); Scotland vs. Papua New Guinea (MAAS).
