CHENNAI, FEB. 25. Valery Filippov and Sergey Rublevsky from Russia and veteran Rafael Vaganian of Armenia figured in a three-way tie for the first place after the ninth and final round in the 3rd Aeroflot Open 2004 chess tournament that concluded at Hotel Russia in Moscow on Wednesday. Sasikiran had a chance to tie for the first place if he had won the final round game with the white pieces. However, the 23-year-old from Chennai drew with big difficulty against former World junior champion Darmen Sadvakasov of Kazakhstan to tie for the four place with 6.5 points. Sasikiran tied for the fourth to 15th places with 6.5 points. He won five games, drew three and lost one. He started as the eleventh seed and this performance is an expected one.
