THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 25. The controversy over the quality of treatment received by the late Governor, Sikander Bakht, at the Medical College Hospital here has put the Government in a dilemma. The Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, said here today that the Government was ready to examine whether there was any lapse. It was only yesterday that the Health Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, ruled out an inquiry, noting that he could not find any reason warranting the same. The Chief Minister expressed the Government's readiness to examine the matter, while speaking to press persons at the airport on his return from Delhi after the funeral of Mr. Bakht. He wanted to discuss the issue with his colleagues before taking a decision, but made it clear that the Government was not averse to the matter being looked into. A senior official said that the Government was absolutely sure that nothing had gone wrong during the treatment. As such an inquiry was not warranted, and the Government had so far taken any decision for an inquiry. An inquiry into the quality of treatment received by the Governor at the Hospital has been demanded by the BJP State president, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, on Tuesday.
