WARANGAL, FEB. 25. Former bureaucrat and noted academic, B.D. Sharma, urged tribal youth to launch a movement with the slogan `Our village our rule' to checkmate the ongoing exploitation of tribal areas and natural resources. Delivering the second endowment lecture on `Marginalisation of Adivasis in India in the context of Globalisation' organised by the Prof. B. Janardhan Rao Memorial Trust here at the Kakatiya University, Mr. Sharma pointed out that even the Britishers never dared to enter into the tribal area and always respected and protected their identity. But, in the post independent era, the successive Governments brought out draconian laws that always interfered with the lives of tribals and marginalised them. "The legislations and the ongoing exploitation of tribals by non-tribals made their life miserable and in many pockets, they are unable to survive,'' he observed. Mr. Sharma criticised the indiscriminate reforms in the name of globalisation that gave chance to the Multi National Corporations (MNCs) to command over the resources not just in a particular country, but all over the globe. "It is like a looting on a massive scale and the tribals are on the receiving end. Since 1991, more than 25 per cent of tribal land went into the hands of MNCs and tribals are displaced due to mining and quarrying,'' he said. The academic appealed to the tribal youth to join hands to protect and preserve their identity and culture. The programme was presided over by the Dean, faculty of Social Sciences, Indrasena Reddy, Janardhan Memorial Trust chairman, E. Jagannatha Rao and members, E. Revathi, K. Seetharama Rao and P. Narender Babu.
