By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, FEB. 25. The Kodakara MLA, K. P. Viswanathan, has alleged that some members of the Congress, led by the Ollur MLA, P. P. George, have been helping the Left Democratic Front (LDF) gain control of the local bodies in the district. In a letter to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) acting president, P. P. Thankachan, Mr. Viswanathan said that the president of the Puthukad panchayat in the Kodakara constituency was ousted through a secret understanding between a section of the Congress and the CPI(M). "Similar political games have been played at the Mattathoor and Thrikkur panchayats in my constituency and the Kolazhi panchayat in the Thrissur constituency," Mr.. Viswanathan alleged. He accused a section of the Congress of having helped the CPI(M) take control of the Erumappetti panchayat in the Wadakkanchery constituency. The president of the Mundathikkod panchayat had also been removed in a political game, Mr. Viswanathan said. A secret pact between a section of the Congress and LDF had effected a change of guard at 14 local bodies, Mr. Viswanathan alleged. He demanded disciplinary action against the Congress members involved in alleged anti-party activities.
