CAS

Sir, — This refers to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's suggestion that the Conditional Access System be deferred and the demand of the multi-system operators (MSOs) in Chennai be allowed to raise the charges to Rs. 300 a month plus taxes in case CAS is withdrawn. The Centre as well as the State Government should retain the MSOs' old rates — Rs.180 plus taxes that would work out to approximately Rs.200. Even this will fetch them about Rs.16 crores a month.

N. Mahadevan,
Chennai
