Bank loan for fisherfolk
KOZHIKODE: The Minister for Local Government, Cherkalam Abdulla, distributed some of the loans being disbursed by Dena Bank to fisherfolk at a programme held here recently. As many as 27 loan applications have been cleared since July 2003 and the bank disbursed loans to the fisherfolk under the aegis of the Theera Desa Raksha Social Welfare Society. The Minister appealed to the financial institutions to work in tandem with Government efforts in alleviating poverty in the coastal belts. The loans are being given for purchasing accessories for processing and marketing of fish, besides vessels for deep sea fishing. The credit facility is being availed under the guidance of the District Industries Centre.
