Summons to M.N. Vijayan, Sudheesh

KOCHI, FEB. 26 . The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate, M.K. Kuttikrishnan, today issued summons to D. Sreekumar, M.N. Vijayan, S. Sudheesh, printer and publisher, editor, and columnist respectively of the bimonthly magazine, Padhom, asking them to appear in person before the court on July 29 in connection with a criminal defamation case.

The summons was issued on a case filed by the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad president, K. Pappootty. According to Mr. Pappootty, an article published in the May-June 2003 issue of the Padhom was per se defamatory. The article written by Mr. Sudheesh had characterised the Parishad as betrayers of sovereign right of the people and agents of imperialist expansionism and alleged that the Parishad had received huge amounts as bribe under the garb of donations, he alleged.
