Plea of Telgi scam accused dismissed

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 26 The Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition by Inspector Puran Singh, one of the accused in the Telgi stamp paper scam, seeking quashing an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against him.

Dismissing the petition, Justice Sodhi said that the CBI FIR was quite different from the one registered by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police against the accused person.

The present FIR disclosed distinct offences against the petitioner, Justice Sodhi said.

The Inspector had sought quashing of the second FIR on the ground that the charges mentioned in it were reproduced from the FIR of the Crime Branch of the city police.

Meanwhile, a Special court for CBI case sent Puran Singh to judicial custody till February 28. Though the CBI officials had rushed to the Special court with the High Court order for taking the accused into custody, he had already been taken away to Tihar jail.

Possibly, the CBI may tomorrow move the lower court seeking his police custody for interrogation.
