Accused moves court seeking arrest by CBI
KOCHI,
FEB. 26.
A former MLA who is an accused in a murder case today approached the Kerala High Court with a strange request -- the court's assistance for his arrest by the CBI.
The petitioner, P. Kumaran, is the sixth accused in the case relating to the murder of the abkari contractor, Munna, who was killed a few years ago and his burnt body was recovered in Srikrishnapuram in Palakaad district. Earlier, the accused had been granted anticipatory bail by the High Court.
While granting bail on January 20, the court had stated that in the event of his arrest by the CBI, he should be released on bail on executing a bond of Rs. 20,000 and two solvent sureties for the like sum.
According to the petitioner, he had informed the CBI of his willingness to surrender. However, the investigating agency had not taken any steps to arrest him.
Justice G. Shashidharan, before whom the petition came up, adjourned the case until next week. - PTI
