Consortium of home textile exporters formed

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, FEB. 26 . A consortium of home textile manufacturers has been formed in Karur under the cluster development programme of the Textiles Committee with the objective of effecting common procurement of raw materials and improving exports.

Committee sources said that the home textile industry in Karur included direct exporters, manufacturers who supply to exporters and those who cater to the domestic market. They are involved in production of items such as kitchen linen and table-mats. While activities including training programmes had been organised for those catering to the domestic market, a consortium of those involved in exports was formed last month.

The consortium comprises 20 home textile manufacturers and small-scale exporters and initially it had taken up the purchase of common raw material. The other activities proposed were efforts to tap new export markets through business visits and participation in trade fairs.
