KOCHI, FEB. 27. The crisis in the Malayalam film industry following a controversy over a stage show being organised by the private channel, Asianet, on March 7 got worsened today with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) condemning the decision of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) to participate in the programme. The Chamber today decided to extend full support to films made without involving members of AMMA. The MACTA has directed its members not to cooperate with the award nite and stage show. The Chamber has decided to include actors and actresses who would resign from their membership in the AMMA in future films. At a press conference here today, the Chamber president, Siyad Kokker, said the success of some films released recently with youngsters in lead roles had instilled confidence among producers and distributors. It has decided not to cooperate with the AMMA in any venture as a mark of protest against the association's decision to participate in the stage show. This statement came a day after the Chamber, artistes and technicians agreed to appeal jointly to the channel to postpone the award nite and stage show. Mr. Kokker said the chamber had agreed to fix a new date for the stage show once the AMMA gave consent for postponing the programme from March 7.
