NEW DELHI, FEB. 28. Retired Test cricketers and umpires will get a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 each for life under the `Platinum Pension Scheme'. The Working Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which met here on Saturday decided to launch this pension scheme as part of the programme being drawn up to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the Board. The BCCI President, Jagmohan Dalmiya, who briefed mediapersons after Saturday's meeting, also announced a medical reimbursement scheme, up to a maximum of Rs 3 lakhs of actual expenses, towards the treatment for terminal diseases for all former players and Test umpires. A committee headed by the former Board President, P.M. Rungta, was formed to finalise the programme of Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year. The committee will include all former presidents of the Board and current office-bearers. The BCCI has also decided to bring out three publications as part of its jubilee celebrations. One will be the book `Social History of Indian Cricket' written by Dr. Boria Majumdar. The Board will also publish the complete statistics of 70 years of domestic cricket and bring out a souvenir during the year. The C.K. Nayudu awards for 2002 and 2003 are to be presented to B.B. Nimbalkar and Chandu Borde respectively. The award is given to a cricketer or any other personality for his contribution to the game. It carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs.
