Central Excise registers 12 per cent growth

CHENNAI,
FEB. 28.
The Chennai Central Excise Zone, comprising I, II, III and IV and Pondicherry Commissionerates realised an excise duty of Rs. 5,070 crores in 2002-03, up from Rs. 4,529 crores in 2001-02, registering an 11.94 per cent growth.
The performance was highlighted at the Central Excise Day celebrations here.
Addressing the staff of the Zone, the Madras High Court judge, S. Ashok Kumar, exhorted them to provide courteous service.
J. Sridharan, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai Zone, said two officers, S. Sankaravadivelu, Deputy Commissioner, and Jose Verghese, Superintendent, were presented with Presidential awards.
