Drop in humidity

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.0 degree Celsius, on Saturday. Humidity dropped from 78 per cent in the morning to 49 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following were the prices of essential commodities (in rupees per kg), in the local wholesale market, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil-54.50, palmolein oil-47, sunflower oil-53.50, tamarind (flower variety)-26 to 30, tamarind (karipuli variety)-33 to 36, chillies-25 to 30, rice (2716)-11 to 11.50, rice (superfine)-13 to 13.50, rice (samba masoori)-13.50 to 14, black gram-20 and red gram-25.

Power shutdown

Residents of some of the localities under Patamata section will not have power supply from 7 am to 1 pm on Sunday, to facilitate shifting of HT/LT lines. The affected areas will include R.R. Garden, Vijayanagar colony, New Postal Colony, Panta Kalava road, Maruthi colony, Raminenivari street, High School road to NTR centre, old post office road, Karanam street, Ranga Rao street, Bapaiah street, APIIC colony, Autonagar phase-III, telephone exchange, Sridhar Rubber and Lakshmi Agro Indl.

Chess for students

The principal of Sri Gogineni Kanakaiah Oriental Degree College, Tadikonda, P. Gopichand, and secretary of the Guntur Chess Association, M. Prasad, on Friday, inaugurated a chess tournament, organised by the Bhashyam Education Institutions. The school management said the response was overwhelming as it had received some 238 entries for the contest.

Cricket tourney from March 10

The Krishna District Cricket Association plans to organise an annual `B' division league cricket tournament for the first time, from March 10. The tournament will be organised at the Sidhartha Medical College Grounds and entries should reach the association office by the evening of March 6. The entry forms could be secured from the association office from March 1 after paying a fee of Rs. 500 and aspirants for the `A' division league to be played this year will not be eligible to be included in the `B' league.
