Letters to the Editor
Sir, Many have criticised the "India Shining" campaign citing unemployment, poverty, etc. As Swami Vivekananda put it, if there is darkness in a room, it is no good to cry, "there is darkness", "too dark," and so on. One can instead light a candle. There are problems, but why always complain you will always have something to complain about if you want to. Vaibhav Niku, Patna * * * Sir, When the Congress coined the slogan "Mera Bharat Mahaan," it was not ridiculed. Hence the criticism by Sonia Gandhi that India is not shining for the poor is not in good taste. During the Congress rule also, the poor were poor. B.V. Rao, Bangalore * * * Sir, The photograph of a deserted street in Juba, Bolangir, was superb (Feb. 28). India Shining? Not by a long shot. As long as there are Kalahandis and Bolangirs, I wonder who is feeling good. Col. (retd.) Mahendra Singh, Coonoor, T.N.
