By Raghava M.

BANGALORE, FEB. 29. A total of 9,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the previous elections in Bangalore rural and urban districts will be used in six districts of Uttar Pradesh in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission has allotted 604 machines to Hamirpur, 1,470 to Mirzapur, 990 to Sonbhadra, 1,100 to Banda, 2,270 to Sitapur and 3,100 to Azamgarh.

Manufactured by the Bangalore-based Bharat Electronics Ltd., the voting machines are being transported in trucks to Uttar Pradesh. Two armed policemen are escorting each truck and a 20-member team is guarding the Visvesvaraya Towers from where the machines are being transported under the supervision of divisional magistrates of the respective districts.

On Saturday, six trucks carrying the voting machines left for Sitapur under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Jeevan Prakash. Mr. Prakash told The Hindu that the machines would be used in two parliamentary constituencies.
