Two cops among seven held for robbery

JAIPUR, FEB 29 . Seven persons, including two police constables, have been arrested for robbing Rs 4.5 lakhs from a local businessman, police said here today.

The incident occurred yesterday when some of the accused, posing as investors from Mumbai, approached the owner of a computer firm, Anshul Saini here, offering a huge loan if he brought Rs 4.50 lakhs as margin money.

The deal was struck at a hotel and the firm's owner was asked to hand over the cash to the driver of a car parked some distance away and take the loan amount draft.

However, when the victim was midway some people dressed as cops stopped him and snatched the cash and fled along with the others.

The police immediately swung into action after Saini reported the incident and nabbed the culprits within hours. While three were arrested in Tonk district, four others were nabbed in Sawai Madhopur district.

Superintendent of police (Jaipur rural) B.L. Soni said all the arrested persons belonged to a gang headed by one Shailendra Kumar. The two constables arrested were currently posted in Kota, he added.

Another sub inspector of police, also posted in Kota and allegedly involved in the crime, is still at large and search for him was on, Soni said.
