Forum wants parties to spell out stand on development

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, FEB. 29. The Cuddapah Intellectuals Forum convener, M. Vivekananda Reddy, on Sunday asked all the political parties to release a special manifesto for Cuddapah district on developing agriculture, completion of pending irrigation projects and employment generation.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Reddy urged the parties to list out priorities on vital sectors. Emphasising on the need to forge unity among intellectuals, he alleged that public representatives and political parties were engrossed in amassing wealth and viewing intellectuals as nominal entities, which was the major reason for the district remaining backward.

Deploring the delay in providing irrigation facilities to 15.30-lakh hectares of cultivable lands, he said only 3.64-lakh hectares of land was being cultivated including 1.30-lakh hectares, which had irrigation facilities.

Irrigation projects such as Gandikota envisaged to irrigate 1.30-lakh hectares in the district, Telugu Ganga, Srisailam Right Branch Canal and Chitravathi Balancing Reservoir were pending, he stated.

He sought a comprehensive action plan to optimally utilise mineral resources available in the district in order to generate employment.
