The training would be for repairing mobile phones, rural engineering, construction of low-cost houses, plumbing and rural sanitation, automobile repairs, aluminium fabrication, manufacturing paper bags, food processing, candle manufacturing, beautician courses and courses on computers. Women in the 18-50 age group would be selected for the training. Mr. Balagopal said that through the courses, the Sansthan, functioning under the Human Resources Development Ministry, intends to evolve a new work culture. The courses are being launched in association with the District Literacy Mission, Kudumbashree units and the P.N. Panikkar Manava Vikas Kendra. Mr. Balagopal, who is also a member of the National Khadi Board, said that those who successfully complete the course would be considered for loans under the `margin money scheme' of the Khadi Commission. The inaugural function would be presided over by the district panchayat president, Aisha Potti. Thirunellur Karunakaran will deliver the keynote address.
