NEW DELHI, FEB. 29. Garry Kasparov overlooked a winning continuation towards the fag end of his match against Teimour Radjabov and with it, missed a fine opportunity to grab the lead following the ninth round of the Linares chess tournament on Saturday. An uncharacteristic oversight from the world's strongest player on the 55th move of the Scotch game resulted in the absence of any decisive verdict during the day. Earlier, in the two matches which followed the Sicilian Sveshnikov, Alexie Shirov drew with Vladimir Kramnik in 32 moves and Francisco Vallejo did likewise with Veselin Topalov in 33 moves.
The results (ninth round): Alexei Shirov (4/8) drew with Vladimir Kramnik (4.5/8); Francisco Vallejo (3.5/8) drew with Veselin Topalov (3/7); Teimour Radjabov (3/8) drew with Garry Kasparov (4.5/8); Peter Leko (4.5/7) bye. 10th round pairings: Topalov-Shirov; Kramnik-Radjabov; Kasparov-Leko; Vallejo bye.
