BANGALORE, FEB. 28. The Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), Jayakar Jerome, has said that the interests of landowners and farmers, whose lands have been acquired for developing the Arkavathy Layout, will be taken care of. He has asked them not to "heed any baseless rumour spread by rumour mongers." Those who had constructed pucca houses within the layout limits before the notification of February 2003, had been assured that their houses would be integrated into the layout and not demolished, he said. He also announced that landowners would be allotted an "incentive site" under an "Incentive scheme" for every acre of land acquired, subject to a ceiling limit of 10 sites. Referring to the issue of providing alternative sites to revenue site owners, Mr. Jerome said they (the owners) would be eligible for alternate sites if they met the requirements of a recent Karnataka High Court order in this regard.
