Congress, JMM talks deadlocked
By K.V. Prasad
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 29.
Talks for seat-sharing between the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) of Shibu Soren appear to be deadlocked following differences over specific seats.
The Congress leaders, R.K. Dhawan, the AICC general secretary managing party affairs in the State and MP, R.K. Anand, and the JMM chief, Mr. Soren, at a meeting here on Saturday could not narrow down differences as the JMM was keen to have the constituencies of Koderma and Rajmahal, held by the Congress in the dissolved Lok Sabha.
Party sources said here that the JMM was insisting on these two seats as they fell in its areas of influence and had argued that the Congress may not be able to repeat its 1999 performance. The JMM's compulsions also include the commitment of its chief to the family of late Ritlal Varma, an influential leader, who represented Koderma on behalf of the BJP and later joined the JMM.
