Parties seek fair elections

By Our Staff Reporter

JAMMU, FEB. 29. The National Conference today demanded increased security to its workers so that the Lok Sabha polls are held in a free and fair manner.

Talking to reporters here, the NC leader and former Minister Ali Mohd. Sagar said: "We want the elections to be free and fair. The Election Commission should see to it that the elections are held in a level-playing field." He expressed concern over the alleged use of official machinery by Mufti Government for promoting party interests.

The CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA, M.Y. Tarigami, hoped that the elections would be held in a free and fair manner in the State which has six parliamentary seats. He said, "The last Assembly elections were a victory of democracy and the coming Lok Sabha polls should also prove the same."

Right now the political parties in the State are facing a unique problem of reluctant candidates. No party has yet finalised the list of candidates for the elections.
