BHOPAL, FEB. 29. The Union Law Minister, Arun Jaitley, said here today that the Bharatiya Janata Party was fully geared for the coming Lok Sabha elections. Talking to newspersons, he said that BJP would contest the coming elections on a common National Democratic Alliance (NDA) poll manifesto. The party is also preparing its vision document, which would be released soon, he added. Mr. Jaitley said that his party's campaign would focus on the popular leadership of the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the performance of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre. He further stated that there was lack of alternative to the BJP-led NDA alliance. The Union Minister tried to discount all attempts to forge an anti-BJP alliance saying that the parties opposed to the BJP neither have programmes nor policies. On being asked whether he would be contesting the Lok Sabha election from Bhopal, Mr. Jaitley said the decision would rest entirely on the party. He also said that the two-and-half-month-old Madhya Pradesh Government was performing well. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, who was to return here this afternoon from Jabalpur by State helicopter cancelled her engagements and had chosen to return by road to honour the model code of conduct which is now in place following the announcement of the election schedule for the Lok Sabha elections.
